ACTS Retirement to Pay Over $1 Million to Settle Breach Suit

Christopher Brown

ACTS Retirement Services Inc. would pay over $1 million to settle allegations that it failed to protect the personal information of nearly 21,000 people exposed in an April 2022 data breach, under a deal given initial approval by a federal court.

Cara-Aimee Corra and Valarie Hanna alleged the assisted-living provider was negligent in securing the sensitive information of employees and residents of its facilities, which allowed cyber criminals to infiltrate ACTS’s network.

Information exposed in the incident included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, financial-account numbers and routing numbers, and medical-treatment or diagnosis information.
